Makgeolli is a Korean alcoholic beverage made by fermenting glutinous rice, barley, wheat flour, millet, potatoes, etc.
A sake brewery meticulously crafted this makgeolli using the simple ingredients of "rice, water, and koji," resulting in the birth of this purely domestic Japanese makgeolli.
It has a yogurt-like aroma and a gentle, soft sweetness of rice on the palate.
The sweet and sour acidity makes for a pleasantly refreshing drink.
While not as thick as authentic Korean makgeolli, this Japanese makgeolli has a smooth finish that makes it dangerously easy to drink!
It pairs exceptionally well with rich dishes such as yakiniku and yakitori.
For an ideal serving, add ice to a soba choko cup (approx. 90ml), shake "Karakusa Makgeolli" well, and pour it in. It's best when nicely chilled.
For a more adventurous and "in-the-know" way to drink, add crushed ice to a mug and mix with soda water or beer!
