Hayato potatoes are also called `` carrot potatoes '' because they contain a lot of carotene, so their flesh is orange in color .
It has been widely cultivated in Kagoshima Prefecture since the Taisho era, but now the number of producers has decreased and it is a rare variety that does not appear on the market much.
