Founded in 1916. It is the oldest brewery among the brown sugar shochu distilleries in the Amami Islands.
The company name and flagship brand, "Asahi," was named after Kikaijima, which is located in the easternmost part of the Amami Islands, where the rising sun can be seen first from the ocean.
It also embodies the hope for the prosperity of the company, like the rising sun.
Since then, as "shima no seiya" (the island's sake brewery), it has been nurtured by the local community and continues to this day.
With a tradition of almost 100 years, the brewery has refined various techniques and recipes to enhance the flavor of shochu, and is committed to making shochu using homemade ingredients that are abundant in the blessings of the island.
