The Goto Islands are formed by steep, deep green mountains surrounded by a clear blue sea.
The production of shochu begins with the cultivation of sweet potatoes, the raw material, by brewers.
The sea breeze, which contains minerals, is sometimes gentle and sometimes harsh, flowing through the fields to grow the sweet potatoes vigorously.
The shochu of Goto, Gotonada, is brewed by linking the earthy efforts of agriculture to the delicate preparation .
