"Good health," "Prosperity in business," "Safety in the home," "Dispelling epidemics."
This is a drink that is drunk at the halfway point of the year, to give thanks for the safety of the past six months and to pray for peace in the next six months.
June 30th marks six months since the first shrine visit of the year, halfway through the year.
Since ancient times, the "New Year's Eve purification ceremony" has been held on New Year's Eve to cleanse people of the sins and impurities of the past year, and on the following day, New Year's Day, people make "hatsumode" (first visit of the year) to shrines and temples to pray for peace in the new year and mark the beginning of a new city.
Natsumodezake refers to a pilgrimage that marks the halfway point of the year, following the "summer purification" ritual to cleanse oneself of sin and impurity, to give thanks for the safety of the past six months and pray for further peace in the coming six months.
"Good health," "Prosperity in business," "Safety in the home," "Dispelling epidemics."
On the day of the "summer pilgrimage," it is purified by the chief priest of Atago Shrine in Yamanashi Prefecture and becomes a lucky charm that brings peace to anyone who drinks it.
