[Katsunuma Winery Koshu Terroir Selection Shimo-Iwasaki 2024]
The powerful fruit of Shimo-Iwasaki, carefully aged in barrels.
This Terroir Selection wine is made exclusively from Koshu grapes harvested in the Shimo-Iwasaki vineyard of the Iwai district in Katsunuma town, and aged in oak barrels for 11 months.
Grown in soil where volcanic ash overlaps with clay, the Koshu grapes of Shimo-Iwasaki have thick skins and mature slowly, resulting in a powerful fruitiness, rich minerality, and firm acidity.
The grapes pair beautifully with oak aging, and the use of 1- to 3-year-old French oak barrels adds depth to the density of the fruit.
It features a rich fruitiness reminiscent of apples, with luxurious notes of vanilla, butter, and caramel.
While powerful, it is well-balanced and leads to a long finish.
This is a bottle particularly recommended for pairing with dashi-based dishes.
